DNS
DNS translates domain names into IP addresses. ~horse operates a public recursive resolver that also supports .ygg and .meship domains — special addresses used on the Yggdrasil mesh network. Our resolver uses the following software:
- Unbound — validating recursive resolver
- ALFIS — resolves .ygg domains
- meshnamed — resolves .meship domains
To use our DNS resolver, configure your device or application with the following settings:
- IPv4: 65.87.7.164
- Yggdrasil: 202:cbff:6f7f:fa95:c6e9:3768:a96e:d1c8
- Port: 53
- DNS-over-HTTPS: https://tilde.horse/dns-query
Testing
To verify the resolver is working:
RESOLVER="@65.87.7.164" drill $RESOLVER example.com; drill $RESOLVER laptop.ygg AAAA; drill $RESOLVER maid.ygg AAAA
kdig +https @tilde.horse example.com
Privacy
We do not log DNS queries. No records of your lookups are stored or monitored on our server. DNS-over-HTTPS encrypts queries between your device and tilde.horse, which protects them from local network observers. For non-.ygg and non-.meship domains, our resolver performs direct recursive DNS lookups instead of forwarding queries to a third-party recursive resolver.
